Haweya is the founder of MUD & MUSK, an innovative and ethical e-commerce platform for personalised DIY skincare. MUD & MUSK was selected against 150 applicants Australia-wide as the winner of 2016 B-School’s Idea Nation competition, receiving the first prize of $20,000 to help launch the business. It was also a winner at the Perth Impact Seeds Pitch competition for its innovative idea and social impact on local harvesters in Somaliland.
Prior to running a start-up, Haweya was a Research Analyst at Perth think tank, Future Directions International under its Global Food and Water Crises research program, where she released strategic analysis papers on environmental issues in the Indian ocean littoral states. Her background studies in Environmental Science led to her interest in documenting the environmental and socioeconomic issues around cosmetic ingredients.
In 2013, Haweya was selected to be a Global Voices Youth Delegate for the World Bank and International Monetary Fund Annual Meetings in Washington DC. As part of this role she completed a research paper on energy access in rural sub-Saharan Africa.
